the shop: founders Paradise Surf Shop, founded in November of 1997 by women surfers for women surfers, is the first and only women-founded surf shop in Northern California. Paradise is located in the heart of Santa Cruz's Pleasure Point, two blocks from some of the finest surf spots in the world. Sally SmithOwner - CEO/CFO sally@paradisesurf.com Sally, one of the original founders of Paradise, has been involved in the Santa Cruz surfing community for over 12 years. She has 24 years of experience in the paralegal profession and holds an A.S. Degree in Court Reporting. While working for top rated law firms in San Francisco, Sally's interest in ocean protection and surfing began to grow. She took up her first surfboard in March of 1991. In her quest to educate the general populace about ocean pollution, she began volunteering for the Surfrider Foundation. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Santa Cruz and made surfing and protecting the ocean and coastal environment a priority in her life. She gained experience in community service, public relations, and group leadership and organization through her years as chairwoman of the Santa Cruz Chapter of Surfrider Foundation, as a member of the Surfers' Environmental Alliance Advisory Council, as Secretary to the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum Steering Committee, and as Environmental Committee Chair for the Association of Women Surfers. Sally has been a guest editor/writer of the environmental column for SurferGirl Magazine (now Surf Life for Women); and she has represented the recreational users of the Monterey Bay on the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council. She continues her community service work through organizing fundraisers for local non-profit organizations with Blu Emursion Clothing owner, Liz Hess, and organizations like West Wind Surf Club and the Capitola Chamber of Commerce.
