    Bill Schorr

    May 1 - 31 , 2007
    Paradise Artist’s Grotto

Bill Schorr launched his editorial cartooning career in 1973 at the Kansas City Star.  In 1978, he moved to The Los Angeles Herald Examiner, where he remained for nearly a decade before returning to The Star.  Schorr was staff cartoonist fore the New York Daily News from 1997 to 2001 and the AM New York newspaper from 2001 to present.

In addition to his editorial cartoons, Schorr was the creator for various comic strips including Conrad and Phoebe’s Place.  He continues to create the long running strip “The Grizzwells” for Newspaper Enterprise Association.  He is also working on writing and illustrating several children’s books.

Bill Schorr has won the National Cartoonists Society award for Editorial Cartoons.  His cartoons regularly appear in Time, Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report and The New Republic.

As a hobby, Bill has been painting for several years.  He has, only up until recently, included female surfers in his area of interest.  His ability to capture movement and form is remarkable.  His paintings are the “dancers of the water.”

PARADISE SURF SHOP HIRES PRO LONGBOARDER ASHLEY LLOYD TO MANAGE SHOP!

Ashley on a big wave
On a cold day in February a lovely young woman came into Paradise to chat.  After a few hours talking of dreams and realities, this lovely young woman says to me, “what would you think of hiring me to manage the shop?”  It didn’t take me long to make the decision to hire this longboard prodigy as my new shop manager.

Her name is Ashley Lloyd and she hails from Newbury Park, California.  Ashley started surfing at Malibu and Refugio, catching her first stand-up wave at 3rd Point Malibu on a little Zuma Jay twin fin at 7 years old.

Ashley board shapingAshley is now a professional longboarder competing around the world.  She is also a professional surf instructor with over nine years of experience in teaching at Malibu, as well as the all women’s surf camp Las Olas in Sayulita, Mexico.  If you are looking for a professional surf instructor – come on by the shop and sign up!

Ashley’s resume also includes 5 years of experience in shaping surfboards and she now has her own signature label with the Bing Surfboard company. And, as if this weren’t enough, Ashley is also an accomplished singer/songwriter/musician with two cd’s under her belt.  She performs around Santa Cruz on a regular basis.

PARADISE SURF SHOP NAMED IN 100 PLACES EVERY WOMAN SHOULD GO TRAVEL GUIDE!

100 Places Every Woman Should GoThe latest trend in travel guides has readers following lists of everything from where to kiss to places you can’t miss before dying. But for women, no book on the market has the focus, range, or scope of 100 Places Every Woman Should Go. After a lifetime of globe-trotting and interviewing travelers, award-winning author Stephanie Elizondo Griest has compiled the definitive list of top 100 destinations for women. 100 Places Every Woman Should Go points the way to places around the world of inspiration and enlightenment, adventure, and historical places where heroines battled for the right to speak, vote, rule, and be free.

Paradise Surf Shop owner, Sally Smith, couldn’t be more pleased. “I was caught by surprise when I received a letter in the mail, along with a certificate of appreciation from the publisher, Travelers’ Tales out of Palo Alto, announcing the inclusion of my store in the book” Smith said. “What an honor to be featured in the first travel book of its kind” Smith went on to say. “I immediately ordered the books to sell at Paradise – anything I can do to help promote women’s enlightenment and encourage women to travel outside of their own community to see how others live will help our world a better place.”

This revolutionary traveler’s guide book also includes a list of top 10 travel tips and a list of tour groups specifically designed for women adventurers.

100 Places Every Woman Should Go is on sale at Paradise Surf Shop and retails for $16.95. Drop on in and get your copy now before they sell out! Call Paradise Surf Shop at 831-462-3880 for more information.
