Well, we couldn't have asked for more cooperation from the surf and sun on Saturday, April 8 th . With nearly 100 contestants in attendance and all manner of spectators, the 10 th Annual Women on Waves Longboard Surf Fest went off without a hitch!

From dawn until dusk, the sun shone with nary a cloud in the sky and the surf was definitely up! All the contestants were stoked on the scene and couldn't wait to don their rashguards and paddle out for their first heat.

Surfboards were given away every hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with tons of fun prizes in between.

Between Rebecca's Mighty Muffins and Coffee for breakfast and the Aloha Island Grille Hawaiian plate lunches no one went hungry.

Surf Tech loaned out surfboards to anxious surfers wanting to ride the excellent waves at Captiola main beach and team rider Kristy Murphy was there all the way from Florida to sign autographs and share the stoke!

Scion and Toyota of Santa Cruz gave away a pile of rashguards and beanies.

Zag Design gave away a year's worth of web hosting.

Hotline Wetsuits was on hand to answer all your questions about wetsuit construction and design.

Dozens of WOW commemorative tees and hoodies were purchased and worn the whole day long - thanks to Doug Weymouth of Shirt Crafter for an excellent job of screening the tees and hoodies.

Music from the Surf City Slackers and Cruzin' kept the vibe shakin'.

The awards dinner was fabulous - starting off the evening was The Ashley Lloyd situation featuring Ashley Lloyd, Lady Banjo (Cathy Mayerhofer), and Zeuf Hesson. The ALS entertained with mellow tunes while contestants and family and friends loaded up on a delicious dinner offered by Zelda's on the deck.

The auction and awards ceremony was hosted by the one and only Deadly Dangerous Doug Weymouth and the Mojito Maiden Kristy Murphy. Their entertaining wit and humor kept us all in stitches as they auctioned off four amazing Surf Tech boards and raffled off the 9'2" Paradise board by Strive Surfboards.

The awards were given to all the winners and everyone oohed and awed at the amazing hardwood 1 st place trophies lovingly had made by local craftsman Teak Gillette.

No one went away dissatisfied at this years event. A complete success it was.

A GIGANTIC MAHALO to everyone who supported the event with cash, product donations and just sheer stoke!

To sum it all up a quote from Jasmine Brack - 1 st Place, Menehune Division: On Jasmine's way home from the awards dinner, her eyes barely open and her arms tightly wrapped around her 1 st Place trophy she said, "Nana, this has been the best day of my life!"

Now that's sayin' something coming from someone who has lived all of seven years!
